Rebranding for an impact start-up to support sustainable growth.

Enifer is a biotech start-up based in Espoo, Finland, founded in 2020. They harness the power of fungal fermentation to upcycle agrifood industry byproducts into nutritious mycoprotein ingredients. Enifer has a unique starting point as they are building on a proud history of Finnish innovation – their PEKILO® process was originally developed and commercialized already in 1975! They’ve taken this ingenious piece of engineering many steps further and are ready to feed the world.

Opportunity

In 2023, Enifer raised €11M to make planet-friendly fungal protein from the by-products of food and agricultural processes. The successful A-round was led by Aqua-Spark and joined by Tesi, Valio, Voima Ventures, and Nordic Foodtech VC. Our task was to create a new brand strategy and identity to support the scaling phase of the company and make it ready for sustainable global growth.

Brand Strategy

To understand the current market, key challenges, and opportunity areas, we conducted market analysis and stakeholder interviews as a part of the insight phase. From there, the team began developing the key elements of the brand strategy to highlight Enifer’s distinctive position. Instead of focusing only on what makes them different compared to animal-based protein, we wanted to emphasize their uniqueness in a sustainable food system that enables healthy and tasty diets for all.

Visual and verbal identity

The new visual identity is a combination of a hint of history and a modern touch to support Enifer’s unique story. We wanted to strengthen the role of PEKILO®, the world’s first commercial mycoprotein, and create a clear hierarchy between the company brand and product brands. The communication is simple and straightforward, aiming to clearly communicate the potential and benefits of Enifer’s solutions.
